8 Documentary Dos & Don’ts

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

An interesting article written by vet film festival programmer Basil Tsiokos sums up 8 observations that most programmers will take into account when selecting documentaries for film fest.

Here are the highlights -

1. Sprinkling a dozen still photos amidst three dozen talking head shots does not make for an interesting film.

2. Let the images tell the story.

3. Use subtitles instead of dubbing foreign languages

4. Hire a good sound person

5. Picking the right subjects to follow is so important.

6. Has anyone made a film about the same (or a similar) topic already?

7. Having ponderous voiceover narration = bad idea.

8. Please try to have a point before making your film.
